According to The Oregonian , photographer Jacobus Rentmeester is suing Nike for violating copyright laws over a picture he took of Michael Jordan in 1984 for Life magazine. Nike recreated the image of Jordan in 1985 and put the Jumpman logo in place in 1987 without Rentmeester’s consent, the lawsuit alleges.

Furthermore, Nike allegedly refused to speak to Rentmeester when he originally approached them.
Rentmeester registered the image with the United States Copyright office on Dec. 18, 2014. He is seeking unspecified financial damages from Nike.
