Phil Jackson Made Dennis Smith Jr. Eat An Octopus At Knicks Pre Draft Meeting

OK, so the last one probably isn’t that common, but according to Dennis Smith Jr., it’s exactly what the Knicks did at their pre-draft meeting. Back when Phil Jackson was still in charge, he and some other front office members and coaches took Smith out to dinner, and well, we’ll let him explain how it went down.

Via the New York Daily News:

Even though Smith obliged and ate the octopus, the Knicks ended up not taking him. Instead, Smith fell to the Mavericks where he’ll probably have a significant decrease in octopus consumption.

As for the Knicks, forcing a 19-year-old to eat tentacles just goes to show why Phil Jackson wasn’t working in New York. Smith is probably glad things worked out the way they did.
