As with other detection tools in Phasmophobia, the Glowstick acts similar to the Flashlight in a sense that it directly provides iillumination to other areas. Likewise, similar to the UV Flashlight, the Glowstick serves as a means to spot fingerprints and footprints in the haunted location to indicate the presence of a Ghost. However, just how can players use the Glowstick more efficiently in their ghost-hunting experience?
The Glowstick: A Basic Description
Players who look at the Equipment Store in the Phasmophobia game can notice that the Glowstick is one of the more cheaper items around, costing players just $20 a pop. It’s a good thing that the Glowstick doesn’t cost much, too, considering it’s not part of the player’s Starting Equipment. This does mean that players lose the Glowstick alongside their other purchased equipment if they die within a match.
The Glowstick looks exactly like its namesake - a stick that glows in the dark. Its real world equivalent is a signal flare or an actual glowstick, where a person needs to “crack” it in order for the light to appear. In the game, it acts as the equivalent of the UV Flashlight. It also glows a bright purple light that dims over time, but it never runs out of juice once it’s activated.

Before players proceed to purchase the Glowstick for their Phasmophobia ghost-hunting journeys, it may help to understand some rough numbers involving the gadget. That way, players won’t waste their Money on the equipment and be extra sure about using it for their ghost-hunting adventure. Here are some things to take note:

Price: $20 - The Glowstick is one of the more cheaper items around in the Equipment Store, being just slightly higher in cost compared to the Lighter ($10), Salt Shaker ($15), Smudge Sticks ($15), Candle ($15), and costs the same as Sanity Pills ($20). The fact that players only need a few dollars to purchase more useful items such as the Thermometer ($30), Crucifix ($30), the EMF Reader ($45) and the Strong Flashlight ($50) means players do need to think carefully before buying this item. Maximum Placement Limit: 2 - Players can carry two (2) Glowsticks in the location at the most, giving them quite a bit of wiggle room illuminating various areas.
How Does The Glowstick Work?
Similar to other items in Phasmophobia that players use while hunting for ghosts, the Glowstick has a rather straightforward purpose: act as a UV Flashlight. However, compared to the more focused UV Flashlight, the Glowstick works as an area illuminator, being able to spot prints across an area much faster than its UV Flashlight counterpart. Here’s how it’s used:
Activation: Before players can actually use the Glowstick, they need to activate it first. This makes the Glowstick glow brightly for 1 minute and then fading into dim light over 10 seconds after that. Radius: The effective radius of the Glowstick is roughly the size of a doorway. Print Spotting: As with other straightforward pieces of equipment, the Glowstick is used primarily to catch prints. It can highlight footprints or Fingerprints in the area to help with the player’s ghost-hunting process. Held Detection - Fingerprints: While held, the Glowstick still glows with light and may help players spot Fingerprints in various locations that are usually eye-level. Floor Detection - Footprints: When close to the ground or on a surface, the Glowstick may highlight footprints in the immediate area as well.
Any Tips For The Glowstick?
Despite the rather straightforward nature of the Glowstick as a piece of equipment in the Phasmophobia horror game, its existence as an alternative to the UV Flashlight means there are uses for the Glowstick that makes it a recommended item compared to the other option. Here are some things players should consider when trying to use the Glowstick more creatively for their ghost-hunting journey:

Get Ghost directions with the Glowstick: When players use the Glowstick alongside another detection tool like the Salt Shaker or the Motion Sensor, the footprints they produce may give away the direction the Ghost is taking. This is useful in higher-level play, such as in Nightmare Mode, where Phasmophobia Ghosts may change Ghost Rooms. Instant vision: Due to the nature of the Glowstick as a light source with an area of effect instead of the focused UV Flaslight, the Glowstick immediately gives a new source of light for players to use. Non-electrical illumination: Unlike other sources of illumination in the game, Glowsticks aren’t electrical by nature, meaning they won’t be interrupted by Ghost events or won’t attract Ghosts on the get-go. Mark relevant areas: Due to the nature of Glowsticks as a source of illumination with a unique color, it’s easy to leave them to mark special locations in an area. These include Ghost rooms, the breaker, a fuse box, or other immediate places that players won’t be able to immediately find.
Item Synergies For The Glowstick?
While the Glowstick is indeed used specifically to spot Fingerprints and footprints, there are ways players can do this more efficiently if combining the Glowstick with other items in their arsenal. Here are some recommended item synergies for the Glowstick to make the teams’ ghost-hunting process in Phasmophobia easier:
Salt Shaker: Players can immediately spot footprints once they drop a Glowstick beside a pile of Salt. That way, prints on the Salt would immediately release footprints, provided the Ghost isn’t a Wraith. It’s ideal for players to use the Glowstick only immediately after the print appears on the salt pile and not before, so the lighting is at its maximum. Motion Sensor: Similar to the Salt Shaker, it’s ideal to place a Glowstick under a Motion Sensor so it may be able to highlight footprints whenever a Ghost passes by. Likewise, using a Glowstick only after determining with some certainty that the area with the Motion Sensor is likely the Ghost room will boost the chances of spotting footprints.
