Beginners and newcomers to the Luster Class might feel overwhelmed with their mechanics at first glance. But due to their straightforward gameplay approach, novice and savant Lusters alike can dish out elemental firepower to turn the tide of battle.

10 It’s All About Gunblades

Unlike other Scion Classes, the Luster in PSO2 are heavily reliant on the Gunblade. This focus is primarily due to their aggressive fighting approach, which revolves around swapping various Gunblades to “juggle” different combat fighting styles. Instead of just having flashy techniques per style, each Luster Style becomes suitable to deal with certain kinds of engagements.

At its core, the Luster Class has access to three Luster Styles. What Style a player can use depends on the element of their Gunblade. The Fomel (Fire/Dark) Style focuses more on single-target combat. Meanwhile, the Baran (Light/Ice) Style relies on defense. Lastly, the Zandi (Wind/Lightning) Style is geared towards fighting mobs.

9 Even Normal Movement Is Tactical

Similar to other Classes, the Luster Class has access to unique movement options that add to their maneuverability in combat. In the case of the Luster Class, players can use even their basic movement patterns to flow into their more mobile-oriented playstyle.

Double-tapping the Weapon Action will trigger the Style Purge skill, allowing players to shift into new weapons more seamlessly. Double-tapping the dodge action will either result in an additional slash (when forward) or unique attacks (when backward or sideways). Players can do a Rising Gunblade when using Jump + Up after an attack. If jumping without directional input, they do a Falling Gunblade that slams the sword into the ground.

8 Specialized Movement Is Combative

Being a Scion Class, Lusters have special movement mechanics that can’t be found among other Classes. In fact, players need to take note of how some Lusters should capitalize on special skills to add to their mobility potential:

Luster Time: Lusters can trigger Luster Time to trigger their Photon Cluster. This mode gives them a 30-percent incoming damage reduction plus 200-percent PP gain for a short while. After activation, pressing Luster Time can execute a Luster Time Finish, essentially giving them back their Photon Cluster for a neat damage pull. Luster Counter: Lusters execute a Luster Counter when step-attacking for a counter. They do this by using a Normal Attack right after they dodge an enemy attack . When done this way, the Luster Counter can dish out huge damage against foes. Luster Step Guard: Players can dish out a Luster Step Guard when dodging an attack forwards or backward against a locked-on foe. When done this way, Luster Step Guard will shoot a barrage of seeker lasers to the target.

7 Fomel Style Capitalize Speedy Slashes

Of all the Gunblade’s Styles, it’s the Fomel Style that perhaps capitalizes on sheer speed and mobility. Through the Fomel Style’s skillset, players can charge Voltage much quicker and pave the way to more frequent burst attacks.

At its core, the main drive of the Fomel Style is to get up close and personal to enemies. Here are some iconic maneuvers:

Photon Spears : Holding the normal attack can conjure Photon Spears that will attack and debuff enemies alongside the player’s main combo. Repetitive Stab: Holding the Weapon Action trigger will have the player stab enemies repeatedly. Photon Cluster: Doing two Photon Arts back to back can trigger this Style’s Photon Cluster. When the second PA is triggered as a Perfect Attack, the Luster will spawn floating blasters that will attack enemies in AOE. Swift Shot: Triggering this Style’s Swift Shot happens when pressing a PA after doing an Enhanced Combo. This attack will have the player jump towards the enemy and slam them with the weapon.

6 Baran Style Focuses On Stationary Defense

Of all the Gunblade’s Styles, it’s the Baran Style that emphasizes the Luster Class and its sheer potential for defense. Through the Baran Style, players can charge their Voltage faster and gain better access to its swath of handy protective skills.

Given the Baran Style’s penchant for protection, players need to focus on maintaining a balanced approach in combat. Much of its notable skills are activated from a defensive position. Here are some skills to take note of:

Guard Frames: Unlike other Styles, performing Stationary Arts and Normal Attacks will now have guard frames. This bolsters the Luster’s defense. Normal Attack Hold: Holding the Normal Attack will create an AOE burst that deals a bit of damage to various opponents. Weapon Action Hold: Meanwhile, holding the Weapon Action trigger will have the Luster charge a Photon Bullet for huge damage. Photon Cluster: Players can trigger this Style’s Photon Cluster through Just Guarding. When activated, shield bits surround the player and boost them with a 25-percent damage reduction. Swift Shot: In the case of the Swift Shot, players activate this via Weapon Action after a counter. This fires a quick blast that reaches enemies from afar.

5 Zandi Style Builds Damage Through Burst

Of all the Gunblade’s Styles, it’s the Zandi Style that tries to deal damage to as many enemies as possible. Through the Zandi Style, players charge their Voltage faster in order to gain access to its burst AOE move set.

At its core, the Zandi Style emphasizes heavy movement paired with various powerful attacks. Here are some skills to note:

Normal Attack Hold: When holding the Normal Attack, this Style generates an area of effect that pulls enemies towards them. This is a neat ability to help gain access to easy attacks. Weapon Action Hold: When holding the Weapon Action trigger, the Luster damages foes in a debilitating AOE field. The longer players hold the button, the larger this AOE field becomes. Photon Cluster: Players trigger the Style’s Photon Cluster when dodging via the Weapon Action or sideways dodge. Activating the Cluster gives players wings. Using PAs in this mode will have blasts come out of the Luster, restoring PP while dealing damage. Swift Shot: Players trigger the Style’s Swift Shot when countering to the left or right, followed by a Weapon Action. Doing this will shoot bolts of lightning to enemies near the player. This becomes perfect for defensive builds.

4 Neutral Style Is A Handy Reset

Aside from the three core Gunblade elements, the Luster Class also has access to what’s called a Neutral Style. At its core, players trigger the Neutral Style upon using a Style Purge or switching to a weapon without an element. In that case, players won’t have access to the element-specific attributes of other Styles, which can become risky in certain encounters.

In the Style Purge state, players don’t have access to quirks. However, they can fire their Gunblade at a much faster rate at the cost of more PP and Gear. Either way, the Neutral Style is a great combo breaker or a nifty gear shift when rotating into another style.

3 Flechette And Brand Rules The Melee Space

Despite the Gunblade’s dual-use nature, the Luster Class has two melee-based moves to count on in close-to-mid-range incursions. Here are these melee skills:

Flechette: At its core, the Flechee is a quick PA that works best against enemies at short range. Players can enhance this viat he Move Flechette and Move Flechette Enhance, which gives them a bit of wiggle room to dash towards a target. Meanwhile, Stay Flechette is a more stationary version of the Flechette that can reach mid-range targets. Stay Flechette Enhance will have the Luster dish out three quick stabs instead of the usual two. Brand Extension: In contrast, the Brand Extension can generate another blade on the off-hand for melee attacks as well. With the Move Brand, the Luster can spin around and dish out multi-hit attacks quickly.

2 Flexibility Rules The Ranged Space

Whereas the Luster’s Flechette capitalizes on their melee potential, it’s the multiple ranged attack options that can define the Luster’s ranged components. At its core, there are two primary ranged attacks players could use to rule long range:

Slug Scatter: The Luster will fire various bullets in close-to-mid-range. With Move Slug, the bullets are fired in a spread. In the case of Stay Slug, the shots will fire bursts in close-range with minor recoil. With Stay Slug Enhance, the recoil transforms into a backflip. Hollow Point: The Luster will fire a shot that will scatter around and deal damage to a cluster of foes. With Stay Hollow, the bullet can strike three times. Meanwhile, Stay Hollow Enhance transforms the three-strike bullet into a seven-strike variant. The more mobile Move Hollow will force the player upwards for a three-strike attack. Meanwhile, Move Hollow Enhance will add extra shots for a total of seven bullets.

1 Consider Certain Subclasses

Albeit starting off with no means of getting a Subclass, a Luster today can finally choose a Subclass to pair with their specialized nature. Granted, the rather focused playstyle of the Luster can discourage Subclassing, unlike other Classes. However, Luster players should consider trying to pair the Scion Class with these Classes:

Hunter: With its multi-hit capabilities, the Hunter is easily the best offensive option for the Gunblade. In addition, the defensive skills of the Hunter, courtesy of parry frames, can add great sustain to the fast-paced Luster. Fighter: Using the Fighter as a Subclass for the Luster can give it a much-needed boost in terms of critical damage. However, despite its offensive potential, the Fighter does lack the defensive properties of the Hunter. Braver: Thanks to the Katana multipliers, the Braver can provide Lusters with multiple countering opportunities. Its management potential also paves way for efficiency towards PP regeneration.
