In February, the 51-year-old Australian took to Twitter to write, “ESPN reporting Michael Sam is leading the handbag throw at NFL combine….No one else expected to throw today.”

What’s worse is Elkington tried to defend his homophobic stance with an archaic term about those of Asian descent.

“It goes back to “a ball hit an oriental spectator”.There’s no oriental spectators..There just spectators..“like m Sam…He’s just an athlete,” he wrote on February 25 before deleting that tweet. 

Despite the negative comments, it doesn’t appear that Elkington has quite learned his lesson, as he tweeted in April about transgender Olympian Caitlyn Jenner.

“Everyone wants to keep picking on me about Twitter, but they don’t want to pick on other people,” Elkington said in the August issue of Golf Magazine. 

“I’m not saying I’m not responsible for my tweets, but a lot of people are tired of all the political correctness.”
