Eitri’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was quite consequential, considering he eventually helped Thor make the axe that allowed him to do battle with Thanos after he had lost his hammer, Mjolnir. At the time, it appeared the character’s job in the MCU was done, but the actor who portrayed him seems to think there’s a chance the weaponsmith could be one of the people making a return in Thor 4.

In a recent interview with Empire, Dinklage was actually making the press rounds for his new movie, Cyrano. However, the conversation eventually turned to the MCU, and he heavily hinted that Eitri could pop up yet again as one of the characters in Thor: Love and Thunder. When Dinklage was asked what his next project might be, he alluded to Love and Thunder by saying, “well, there’s another Thor movie there, isn’t there?”
He then went on to mention that Taika Waititi is going to be directing this film. After which, he started to get coy and claimed that he “didn’t say anything.” He then continued by talking about how there’s a ton of different ways that Marvel characters can make a return between the movies and the television shows.
That comment could mean that Eitri will indeed return to the MCU, but it won’t be in Thor 4. Of course, he might have also been simply trying to cover his tracks after he hinted rather strongly that Eitri is going to be making an appearance in the very next Thor flick. It’s clear that Marvel Studios is not a fan of its stars spoiling things about the various IPs in its universe. It’s possible he realized that after he let the cat out of the bag.
While some details have managed to slip out about Thor: Love and Thunder, there isn’t a great deal known about who might be appearing outside the main stars. There are bound to be some cameos and reveals that Marvel fans didn’t see coming, if the latest couple of movies in the MCU are any indication. For now, fans will just have to wait and see whether Dinklage is bringing his Marvel character back.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release in theaters on July 8, 2022.
